Supervisors & Managers

“Leading & Influencing for Police Supervisors & Managers”

Today’s police supervisors and managers must effectively influence their officers so that the mission is accomplished.  Leading & Influencing for Police Supervisors & Managers highlights leader behaviors as the key to whether or not leaders will be seen as trustworthy and competent.  When that objective is met, individuals are more likely to follow their supervisor’s or manager’s direction willingly.  This two day program, which happens to be Finest’s most requested program, engages participants to identify their own leader-development goals for the program and beyond.  Delivered in a highly-interactive format, participants are left with an understanding of how to lead more effectively.

Specifically, participants will:

  • Use tools to influence others towards organizational goals
  • Structure ongoing communications to advance influence
  • Implement a strategy to correct the performance of others through direct influence

This program can be offered for specific law enforcement agencies, through police academies for an integrated audience, or for individual attendees at Finest’s Training & Coaching Center.

“Supervisory Communication Skills”

As technology increases, the reliance on interpersonal communication tends to decrease.  However, in law enforcement, especially at the supervisory level, confidence in interpersonal communication is critical to lead a team to success.  It is not enough for a less-than-fully-confident supervisor to hear or read how to be communicate more effectively, they must do it.  Supervisory Communication Skills engages attendees in gradually more challenging communication situations, starting with listening skills and culminating with public speaking to their fellow attendees.  Blending research on communication apprehension and self efficacy, this program is a highly-interactive and highly supportive five-day communication course for supervisors seeking to increase their communication confidence in conversations, small groups, meetings, and public speaking.

Specifically, participants will:

  • Engage in exercises to improve listening skills
  • Engage in communication exercises to improve information exchanges in one to one communication
  • Facilitate a group’s discussion toward consensus
  • Plan and conduct effective meetings
  • Engage in multiple public speaking exercises in which they: provide information, respond to questions, persuade, and speak extemporaneously.

This program can be offered for specific law enforcement agencies, through police academies for an integrated audience, or for individual attendees at Finest’s Training & Coaching Center.
