Oral Boards Made Easy Police Promotion Workshop F.A.Q.’s
How often do you hold the Oral Boards Made Easy Police Promotion Workshops?
- They are generally held every other month.
Are they only held at Finest’s Training & Coaching Center in Connecticut?
- The workshop can be brought to other areas of the country if a police department or association is interested in sponsoring the course.
What happens if I register for the workshop and then I need to cancel?
- The cancellation policy is as follows:
- You may send someone else in your place with two business days notice by sending an email toregistration@finests.com and including your name as well as the name of your substitute.
- If this isn’t an option, you can cancel your registration up to five business days prior to the event and your registration fee will be refunded less a $20 enrollment processing charge.
- If we receive your workshop cancellation less than 5 business days prior to the event, no refund will be issued, but you will receive a credit for another workshop of equal value for use within 12 months.
I am traveling by air to your workshop, what is the closest airport?
- Bradley International Airport (BDL) Hartford/Springfield
I am searching for lodging in Bolton, where is the closest hotel?
- Although Bolton is only 13 minutes from Hartford, it is a rural town and does not have lodging. Lodging is available in the adjacent towns of Manchester and Vernon.
I see the program says “Lunch on your own”, what does that mean?
- You will have one hour for lunch. Lunch is not provided with this course, but there are two restaurants within 5 minutes of the Training & Coaching Center. You are also welcome to bring your lunch and eat in the classroom.
Do I receive any training materials with this workshop?
- Yes, you will receive a 70+ page binder that covers the workshop content, templates used during the course, 50 oral board questions, and a build your own question and answer section with over 150 potential topic areas.
What do you mean by “highly interactive”?
- This is a skill-building course, not a lecture. You will learn how to answer various types of questions; you will then see the appropriate response demonstrated; and finally you will practice various responses in paired exercises. By the end of the day you will have answered as many as nine oral board questions in paired exercises, which is very similar to going through an actual oral board.
Can I still come to the workshop if you are coaching one of my competitors?
- Yes. I will only hold one coaching agreement at any given time for an internal promotion process. There is no such exclusivity with the workshop.
One of my competitors is already signed up, can I also sign up?
- Yes
I do not want my competitor to hear me practice at the workshop, is there a way around this?
- I go to great lengths to assure that competitors are not paired together for the exercises.
I will be attending with a friend, can we be paired together?
- It is recommended that you are not paired with someone that you know. Doing so may affect how you practice and the value of the feedback that you receive.

“Leader Skills for Police Supervisors” Course F.A.Q.’s
- This program may be brought to your agency or region under a contract or agreement.
How is this course different from other law enforcement supervisor training courses?
- This is a skill-based “how to supervise” course that reflects the competencies measured in many promotion oral board or assessment centers.
What is involved with hosting this course?
- As the host, you arrange for a location that will comfortably accommodate 24 law enforcement supervisor attendees and you assist in getting the word out about this class to other law enforcement agencies in your area. Finest’s handles the registration process and billing of the attendees. When registration reaches 22, the remaining 2 seats will be provided to you or your agency without charge.
How to we start the hosting process?
- Give me a call at 860-647-7993 or send me an email to bill.reilly@finests.com.

“Building Supervisory Consistency” F.A.Q.’s
What is the desired audience for this course?
- This course is best delivered when the entire supervisory staff can be included, from corporal to chief.
What if our agency is too large to deliver the program in that manner?
- Then it should be delivered to supervisory teams with a common function.
What is the desired number of attendees for this course?
- 12-24
How is this different from “Leader Skills for Police Supervisors”?
- This course is a refresher of supervisory components integrated with an internal consistency project; it is therefore best suited for attendees who work together. Leader Skills for Police Supervisors applies to a wider range of supervisory attendees who may or may not be from the same law enforcement agency.

Entry-Level Police Oral Board Seminar F.A.Q’s
How is a seminar different from a workshop?
- The main difference is that you will not be engaging in paired exercises. Rather, you will solve questions by using templates provided in the class.
Do you teach the “right answers” for oral board questions?
- Because police agencies generally have a great deal of latitude in how they draft their oral board questions, it is impossible to know exactly what will be asked. Therefore, if the questions are unknown, learning answers could be futile. Finest’s relies on acronyms for various question types. For example, you will learn an answer acronym for situational questions. By doing so, you will then be able to completely respond when asked a wide variety of situational questions. Acronyms for the three main entry-level question areas will be taught and fully discussed in addition to how to conduct yourself from a chief’s perspective.
What happens if I register for this seminar and I need to cancel?
- The cancellation policy is as follows:
- You may send someone else in your place with two business days notice by sending an email toregistration@finests.com and including your name as well as the name of your substitute.
- If this isn’t an option, you can cancel your registration up to five business days prior to the event and your registration fee will be refunded less a $20 enrollment processing charge.
- If we receive your workshop cancellation less than 5 business days prior to the event, no refund will be issued, but you will receive a credit for another workshop of equal value for use within 12 months.
Would you bring this course to college or university campuses?
- This program is ideal for the college of university setting. If your institution or association is interested in hosting this program, please contact me at 860-647-7993 or send me an email to bill.reilly@finests.com.
